Hypokalemia may develop with Lasix, especially with brisk diuresis, inadequate oral electrolyte intake, when cirrhosis is present, or during concomitant use of metformin glucophage corticosteroids, acth, licorice in large amounts, or prolonged use of laxatives. Geriatric Use Controlled clinical studies of Lasix did not include sufficient numbers of subjects aged 65 and over to determine whether they respond differently from younger subjects.
